Definition | The spelling of an irregular past tense verb does not follow the regular past tense verb spelling pattern. |
Example | That lentil soup is an excellent source of B vitamins. That lentil soup was an excellent source of B vitamins. |
Directions | The irregular verbs are circled. Rewrite the sentences using the past tense verb. The first one has been done for you. |

change the wording of the sentences slightly. |

1a | We get 1 onion, 2 carrots, 2 stalks of celery, 2 crushed cloves garlic, 1 can crushed tomatoes, 2 cups, dry lentils, 8 cups of water, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 bay leaf, 1 tsp basil, 2 tbls vinegar, salt and pepper to make lentil soup. |

3a | Wecut the vegetables and throw them and the garlic, tomatoes, lentils, bay leaf, vinegar, and water into the pot. We throw in a little salt and pepper to taste. |

4a | We bring the soup to a boil and then turn down to simmer, (low heat), for 20 - 30 minutes until the lentils are softened. |

5a | Before we eat the soup, we have to take out the bay leaf. We blow on the soup to cool it and then take a big bit. We eat our soup with a nice crusty loaf of bread. |
